My Video Game Addiction

February 17, 2011

I can admit it. I’m kind of addicted to video games. I’m not really addicted to playing the games themselves, its really the acquisition that intrigues me. To date I currently own 10 video game systems. Everything from the Atari 2600 (woodgrain) moving through the SNES (one of the greatest systems ever) to the PS3. Since I was a kid I’ve been into video games. I started with the Coleco Vision which was my first system in the 80s. I would spend hours trying to master Donkey Kong much like Steve Weibe in the great film King of Kong (Fist Full of Quarters). From there I moved on to the NES and I never stopped playing.

As a grown man paying bills and going to work everyday, I dream of owning all of the games I missed out on as a kid. My latest conquest is the Neo Geo. This is a video game system that cost so much I’ve only seen one person actually own one. Even now, over 10 years after the initial release of the system it can fetch over $200. Individual games can go from $50 to $1000 depending on how rare they are. If I can purchase that system for a few key games…I still wont be satisfied. I know myself and the truth is I’m trying to recreate my childhood.

A dream of mine is to have a room in my home dedicated to just my hobbies. All of my video games set up with tons of anime, action figures and manga all around. What can I say, I’m having fun in my 30s.
